I was delighted to receive a ‘phone call today from Colin Buck (Hon) FMPA, CEO of the Master Photographers Association, to tell me that one of my wedding images has been chosen by the BBC World Service to appear on the BBC Brazil website. I was told that following the recent Master Photographer of the Year Awards, over 600 category award-winning images were submitted by the Master Photographers Association and only 10 were selected by the BBC to appear as a slideshow on BBC Brazil Service website. The slide show is also being displayed on several other South American BBC World Service networks

Ali and Jason’s Wedding at Rowton Castle, Shropshire

Rowton Castle near Shrewsbury is internationally recognised as one of the 10 best wedding venues in the UK and this was the stunningly beautiful location for Ali and Jason’s wedding on a wonderful, sunny April day. Ali and her bridesmaids, Cress and Viki, had a fun and relaxed time in the Rowton Suite in preparation for the ceremony whilst Jason and the groomsmen greeted their guests.

Jason & Ali’s wedding day at Rowton Castle was overseen by Lewis in his usual calm and efficient manner. The day was romantic and fun from beginning to end and Ali was a gorgeous bride for Jason. A truly wonderful day at a spectacular venue with a super couple!

Paul & Philippa at Bolsover Castle

It seems fitting that my first blog entry should be given to such a great couple as Paul & Pip. The marriage ceremony took place at the tiny St Mary’s Church, Nanpantan. The reception was held at the rather more spacious and spectacular Bolsover Castle.

Bolsover Castle is the perfect venue. It has history, ambience, architecture, and drama. It is simply a wonderful place to be, especially with a couple like Paul & Pip.
The shot of Pip below was taken on the Nikon D3 with the Nikkor 28-70 lens.

Bolsover Castle is maintained by English Heritage and the staff are very helpful and accommodating. The tower was left unlocked for us to create some artistic images. It was all very relaxed and good fun!

Strong, directional afternoon sunlight lends itself to black and white images. The architecture shows well with the exaggerated shadows that are characteristic of this light. I’m looking forward to autumn and winter. The months either side of high summer often give the best lighting conditions and add drama to images.
